In addition to our family of Danes we also share our lives with.....
BISS BPIS Ch Chezenko Rising Tide of Saxony A2:B1 ED00 (Tide) Date of Birth: 24 February 2006
Tide was supposed to be primarily a working dog, but he has done exceptionally well in the showring with a BPIS and RBPIS to his credit at the tender age of six months. With limited showing Tide has multiple BOB's, CC's, BISS and BPIS wins to his name. Tide is now retired from the showring, but we continue to dabble in obedience and field trial work.
Flash of Blu of Saxony CGC HD00 ED00 (Dallas) Date of birth: 3 December 2004
Dallas is an Australian Cattle Dog. She is very very active and keeps the Danes on their toes. She is currently in training for competitive obedience. So far she is doing very well, but she does get bored very quickly. On the play side she loves water retrieves and also enjoys a 1km walk and a 30 minute swim every day. Sadly Dallas has an undershot bite so she was only shown briefly as a pup and is now spayed.
Dusi of Saxony HD00 ED00 CGC (Dusi) Date of birth: 1 September 2002
Dusi is our resident "mantis/dog" and a much beloved member of the family. He was rescued from a squatter camp and is incredibly bright and eager to please. He enjoys playing with the Danes although he makes a beeline for me if things start getting a bit rough. Dusi is probably a whippet type and has an amazing prey drive. This makes him very easy to train and keep busy. In his youth Dusi competed in agility and obedience. In his first obedience outing he was awarded 1st place with 98%. In his second outing he gained a 2nd place with 96%. In the agility arenas he was a consistent clear rounder and placed a number of times in the large category which he makes by 2cm. We then had a long lay-off due to work commitments, but when we started up again in 2008 Dusi was outstanding! In three outings he gained a number of placings and two qualifications in non-contact agility.
Our best achievement by far is Dusi's clear round and 2nd place at the WODAC Indoor Agility Grand Prix 2008. What made this run so special was that we were invited to compete against all the top dogs in the country, including dogs and handlers who have represented SA at the Agility World Champs (and won!). Even though we are way out of their league, the show organisers wanted different breeds for the public to see. I was so happy just to be invited and my only aspiration was that we would not embarrass ourselves, especially considering that contact agility is our worst event and we've never managed a clear round. To do so well was such an incredible achievement.
Dusi was the oldest dog, the only mongrel and the only rescue to be competing. Talk about being the underdog! The feeling when we took that last jump for a clear round and the crowd went crazy is indescribable. I was so overcome with emotion that I had three little "crying sessions". Dusi handled his big win much better than I did. What a special little dog he is :-) With a string of great performances I was hoping to qualify Dusi into A3, but sadly he was diagnosed with epilepsy a couple of months later. He is now retired from all competitive sports, but he is enjoying his new role as couch potato. Tama Johnny Knoxville of Saxony (Knox) The spoilt "ratlet" has his own page...
