My Zinzan - one in a million
Zinzan's size, substance and impressive head were typical of the German type of Dane, which I believe to be the Dane most suited to its original purpose of hunting boar. He was a devoted companion and most lovable special boy (and unashamedly my favourite). Zinzan's dam and sire were from the famous Liberte kennels in Germany and were bred by Barbara Rettig.
Show
Results While Zinzan's unmistakable German type was perhaps not every local judge's cup of tea, he fared very well and in addition to RCC's to numerous to list he also won:
At Zinzan's last official all breeds championship show he went out in a blaze of glory by winning Best of Breed in a very strong entry. He also took top honours in an all breeds challenge later that day. I won a beautiful beer mug as a prize and even though I don't drink beer, it is one of my most prized possessions. If anybody uses it at home there is BIG trouble! At the same show one of Zinzan's daughters won the bitch CC and gained her CGC title. What a way to finish a sterling ring career!
Temperament Zinzan
remains the ONLY Great Dane dog in South African history to have achieved an
Aptitude Excellent score. This test measures a dog's working ability and mental
stability and Zinzan did the breed proud by not only passing, but by passing
with an Excellent rating - there were many people at the test who scoffed at the
idea of a Dane even passing this test and they all had to swallow their words.
That's my boy! His remarkably calmness and inherent courage was legendary. I received so many message of condolences when Zinzan died - it was amazing to know how many people's lives he touched.
Thank you Jan for entrusting me with this awesome boy - he changed my life and words cannot begin to describe how much I miss him.
